Relatively modern landmarks include the Assiut shells, the Khan Khalili plant, Al-Azhar University, and the ecological wood exhibition. In Abu Tig city, the Twin Mosque stands in Farghal, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Assiut Governorate. A monument to honor Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al-Farghal, born in 810 AH. The mosque covers a large area 27 km south of Assiut. Annually, in a grand procession, the celebration of Virgil's Birthday is held.

assiut celebrates its annual national day on april 18, celebrating the 1899 bani uday revolution against the french invaders. the french could barely win the battle until they hit the city and bombed it with their firearms, setting fire to all houses and property.
