Lake Burullus is the second largest natural lake in Egypt in terms of area, with an area of about 460 km², located in Kafr El Sheikh Governorate. Lake Burullus is dominated by a number of environments, the most important of which are salt and sandy plains, and on the coasts of the lake there are high sand dunes, and each of these environments has special characteristics of the soil that constitutes them, and this is reflected in the importance of these environments in terms of being a natural place for nearly 135 wild and water plant species . Also, humid environments have a great role in receiving migratory wild birds. It was declared a nature reserve in 1998.
