Mosque of Mohammed Ali

Similar to the classic Ottoman lines, the construction of this white mosque inlaid with the castle took 18 years to build (1830-1848) and within it are shimmering chandeliers and a striped stone with a lid, the main dome is rich emerald green. Muhammad Ali's tomb is on the right as you enter.

The shining watch in the entrance courtyard was a gift from King Louis Philippe of France in exchange for the obelisk that adorned the Place de la Concorde in Paris, but it arrived damaged and was never repaired.
