The diving sites near Safaga and its offshore reefs offer top conditions for scuba diving. They offer shallow and sheltered dives ideal for beginners, as well as sheer reef wall drop-offs and wrecks for more experienced scuba enthusiasts. The marine life in this protected marine area is vibrant and varied. The centre of the bay is where you will find a beautiful, shallow coral garden perfectly suited for beginners. In other areas. more experienced divers can explore many reef wall systems. where large pelagic creatures are often seen cruising by. Diving here is possible year around. It is possible to hire good gear and day boats as well as live-aboards can easily be arranged. The water temperature is in the range of 21 to 27 degrees. Temperature on land can reach more than 45 degrees in summer and go as low as 20 in winter.

The best dive sites in Safaga are: 

• Sharm el Naga (popular location for diving, snorkelling, swimming: fire coral, fan coral. giant clams. octopuses, many species of reef fish)

 • Panorama Reef (barracudas, jackfish. reef sharks and pelagic. anemone field, steep walls, cavelets and overhangs, many types of soft and hard corals) 

• Ras Abu Soma (many different species to see)

 • Salem Express (a 100 m passenger and vehicle ferry. which sunk in 1991)

 • Sha'ab Cloude (a small cluster of ergs not more than 100 m) 

• Tobia Hamra (sandy plateaus. snorkelling and barbeques on the beach) 

• Tobia Arba'a (7 Pillars, famous dive full of marine life) • Gamul Kebira (ergs covered in soft corals and swarmed with small fish)

 • Umm Hal Hal (a pristine site with a nice wall. coral gardens, canyons and caves. turtles, tuna. barracuda. sharks and other forms of marine life)
