The phase is known as the Tor Sinai, formerly known as Rithu, which is a small city and the capital of South Sinai Governorate in Egypt.
It appears that the Tur itself was founded in the thirteenth century near the ancient site of Rethu, and was a camp for Muslim pilgrims returning from the Hajj in Mecca.
